Penguins (Year 2 )

05/01/2017 - Welcome back Penguins!

We have had a great first couple of days back and are looking forward to a new term. Thank you again for all your generosity over the Christmas period. Mrs. Morement and I very much appreciate all your cards and lovely gifts, best wishes for 2018!

This week in Maths we have been learning how to tell the time. We have learnt how to find o'clock, half-past, quarter-past and quarter-to. Telling the time can be a difficult concept for the children to grasp, in light of this any time spent at home practising would be greatly beneficial!

Thank you for coming to our assembly! We worked really hard and hope that you enjoyed it!

In our Design and Technology lesson this week we created fruit rockets. We had to carefully select, cut and arrange the fruit to create a fruit rocket. This activity was also linked to our healthy living topic in Science, where we have been learning all about how to keep ourselves healthy.

This week in English we have been learning about how to follow, read and write a set of instructions. Today in our English lesson we followed a set of instructions to create our own glittering sparklers for Bonfire Night!

This week in our computing lesson we have been learning how to take and edit photos. The children have been developing their understanding of what makes a good photo and have been using apps to edit their photos.

This week in Art we have been learning about pointillism, we worked very hard to carefully paint pictures using cotton buds. We used bright colours and took our time to create beautiful pieces of artwork.

Today we have begun learning about and celebrating Diwali in school. We had a very special visitor, Dancing Darren! We learnt about Diwali and took part in an Indian dance workshop, we had lots of fun!

Mrs Hoffman and Mrs Foulser would like to say a big thank you for the vouchers you kindly gave at the end of the Summer term. We had a great night at Felix restaurant on Saturday - great food, great service and we even allowed Mr Hoffman and Mr Foulser to join us!

Thanks again

This week in Art we have created fruit trees! We have learnt how to safely chop up a range of different fruits and have used our imagination to create an image of a fruit tree on our plates.

This week we have been developing our debating skills in our PSHE lesson where we debated as a class whether or not we should get rid of school uniform. The children worked hard to debate their points; drawing on both facts and opinions to build their arguments.

Here are some videos of the children performing poetry this week as part of National Poetry Day. The children have performed in groups, pairs and individually this week, we have some great performers!

This week in our English lessons we have been learning about poetry to celebrate National Poetry Day. The children have performed and written poems this week around the theme of freedom. I was very impressed by the children's creativity and enthusiasm and ability to work as a team during group activities.

We have been having great fun in Science this week exploring our topic of trees! We have been developing our observational and problem solving skills by measuring the trees in our school grounds using metre sticks.

We have had another exciting Art lesson! We have been outside creating tree rubbings and collecting natural materials for our Anthony Goldsworthy inspired collages.

This week in Maths we have been learning about money, we have been trying very hard and have been using resources to help us to recognise coins and to find monetary values. Money can be a challenging concept for children to grasp, in light of this, to help us to keep learning please could you encourage the children to handle and pay with coins at home to extend their knowledge and understanding of using money in real life contexts.

This week in Art we have been painting trees in the style of Vincent Van Gogh, here is our fantastic classroom display.

Penguin class have had a super start to the year! They have been concentrating hard and have been thinking creatively to complete observational drawings of the trees in our playground.
