This week we have a new member of our class joining us- Barnaby Bear! Every weekend one child will be chosen to take the bear home and take him on an adventure! This doesn't have to be anything over the top or out of the ordinary- if you have nothing planned that weekend (lucky you!) Barnaby can have a relaxing weekend at home- likewise if you have a birthday party to go to, a family event, a holiday or a trip to Tesco anything at all- take him along for the journey!
Please draw or document your adventures on 1 page in the book and return him to school on the Monday.
We cannot wait to share all the places he goes to!
We were very lucky and brave last week and tackled the weather to go on our class trip to Tesco. Mrs
Silk and Mrs Golden along with some helpers took us in two groups and off we went to learn all about healthy foods, fruits and vegetables as well as sugar- both good and bad types!
We were fortunate enough to get a behind the scenes look upstairs and went into their conference room, where we got to taste lots of different healthy foods and make our own muesli.
A Sparrows plea!! We are making superhero vehicles next week and politely ask if you can save any recycling you may have for Junk Modelling, we would be extremely grateful!
A special shout out for anything round to make wheels with!
Thank you in advance
We were very lucky with have a music session with Mrs Rhobat today! We got to play lots of games and learnt all about 'Tambourines, Indian hand bells, Jingle Bells, Rain Makers and Maracas'. We were very good at identifying the different instruments from the sounds they make. We also got to sing songs and guess which of one of our class members stole our doggy from their voices!
Phonics books have now evolved into folders which will be going home in your child's book bag tonight! They work exactly the same way as the previous books did, homework is expected to be returned on Tuesday and will be sent back out on Friday.
We are now working on CVC (Consonant- Vowel- Consonant) words which your child should be able to identify whilst sounding out then recording each picture on their sheet. Some clues may be on their activity to help them.
We lost a few Sparrows this week but gained a few Superheroes instead!! Mrs Golden and I have no idea who they are though? Can you guess?
Just a quick thank you to all the parents that was able to attend either of the two maths meetings held this week. We appreciate your time to get to know what Maths looks like in Early Years and the goals for the end of the year.
We do understand that not every parent is able to make it, so please find below a link to the Power Point presentation shown during the meeting. Your child will also receive a pack in their book back on Friday if you didn't get to pick your one up.
First week back and we have started as we mean to go on! Preparing for our 'Farm to Fork' trip in a few weeks and our upcoming book of 'Supertato', we spoke about the role of exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle. We reminded ourselves of staying safe in the hall and worked on our co-ordination skills!
Welcome back and a Happy New Year!! It is so lovely to see everyone's smiley faces upon our return today. We hope you all had a restful break. It is all hands on deck this half term as we are starting our new topic of 'Superheroes' as well as preparing ourselves for our exciting trip to Tesco's in a couple of weeks!
We made it- YIPPEE!! Mrs Golden and I would like to thank you for our generous gifts and a wonderful first term! We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the break.
We all had such a great time at our Christmas Party yesterday, lots of eating, dancing and games- a perfect way to start off Christmas!!
Christmas Dinner and Jumper day today!! Everyone had a great time and a good old sing song over in the canteen today! Lots of fantastic jumpers as well!
The Sparrows had an amazing time with Mr Custard yesterday!! Lots of fun was had by all! :) A very well deserved treat for all their hard work for the Christmas Concert! We are so proud of all of you!
If you have returned your slip for Christmas concert tickets, please note tickets are being returned today inside your child's reading packet. Please check if they are inside and remove them for safe keeping!
Christmas has arrived in The Sparrows!! We were all very excited when we got to decorate our own class Christmas Tree this morning!! Mrs Silk let us decorate it however we wanted, she has promised us she wont move or change it at all!! (POPD- Perfect Ornament Placement Disorder- Mrs Silk is really trying!!)
Can you see our Elf Cam? Mrs Silk told us he's watching us!!!
Just to let you know, alongside Christmas play rehearsals and all the other activities and lessons we are doing; we will be continuing to revise and consolidate all the phonemes taught so far throughout the next two weeks. This will mean that homework books will not be going, but please continue to practise at home when possible!
Please look in your child's book bag to see if they have been given any lines to learn for the Christmas play. Any support and practise you could give them at home would be gratefully appreciated!
The countdown is on! #28days
This week we have been practising our mental maths every morning! We have been ordering random numbers, identifying 1 more or 1 less than a given number and even started learning the 'Subitize Rock'.
Have a look and watch at home, it helps us with our mental recognition of groups of numbers supporting mental calculations.
Don't forget to pick up your copy of the Romford Recorder- The super Sparrows are featured on page 36!
16/11/18 - Children in Need
What a fantastic day we have had in the Sparrows!! Thank you to everyone who has donated to such a worthy cause.
We have had a great afternoon at the Toy Sale, excitement was at an all time high- although we did have to have a little chat about expectations of the toy sale. It was very apparent that many children thought they were going to 'Smyths' (other toys shops are also available) to get their toys!! :)
Have a great weekend!
Our own Sparrow galaxy!
The Sparrows have worked really hard designing and creating their own planets and we are so proud of how they have turned out!
Today, during carpet time, the Sparrows discussed Remembrance Day and why we wear Poppies, as a special way of saying thank you. Afterwards we set up a making station for children to go and make their own Poppy if they wanted to. We are so proud of how hard they worked and how lovely they came out!
This week in the Sparrows we have been looking at festivals, with particular focus on the Hindu and Sikh festival of Diwali. The Sparrows have shown a great interest in learning all about traditions and the story behind Diwali. We were very lucky to have 'Dancing Darren' come in on Wednesday, he taught us all a traditional dance! Everyone had a fantastic time!
The Sparrows family have been reunited again! Thank you for all your 'Get well wishes'- I certainly missed The Sparrows whilst I was off!
I hope you all had a lovely half term, the children certainly took pride in sharing all their holiday news on their return!
We have hit the ground running with our new topic this half term- Space. This week we have started making our own planets. We began first of all by painting our cups and dowling rods black so we can put our planet on top! The children have thought of some amazing ideas of how they will design and decorate their planets so I am looking forward to seeing the finished result next week!
Just a quick message to say a very well done to all my super Sparrows for another fantastic week! The end of the first full week for some of our friends and the second for others! I am beyond proud at how well all the children are settling and remembering the endless things they need to do!!
So feet up, enjoy the weekend and I can't wait to see you all on Monday morning! :)
Mrs Silk x
The Sparrows loved wearing their jeans to school today for Jeans for Genes day! Thank you to everyone who donated to such a fantastic cause.
Mrs Silk is looking forward to Monday as all her Sparrows will be in full time! Yippee!
