Science

Our Science curriculum at AGI is designed to develop and grow pupil’s understanding of scientific ideas and how this links to the world around them. We aim to develop a sense of awe and wonder, providing opportunities that nurture enquiring minds.

Children are encouraged to question, predict, observe, investigate, discover and discuss. We provide a safe and secure environment for children to make mistakes, improve self-confidence and develop independent learners.

Our FIRST Ethos in Science

Fit for Life – Science skills support children’s understanding of the world around them. It nurtures and fosters an attitude of problem solving, perseverance and resilience

Inspired to Learn – Children are enthusiastic and motivated during science lessons, they enjoy the subject and are actively engaged. They are inquisitive and excited to explore and discover the world around them.

Ready to Participate – All children participate in fun, creative and memorable science experiences. Children have a positive approach and are keen to take on new challenges both individually and as a team.

Safe and Secure – All individuals are nurtured and respected. Our safe and secure environment encourages pupils to step out of their comfort zone, make mistakes and improve self-confidence. Pupils are unique as is their learning journey, their achievements celebrated and journey supported.

Trained for Work and Play – Children leave KS1 able to use a range of apparatus and scientific vocabulary. In EYFS through play and continuous provision, indoors and outside children are able to ask scientific questions, solve problems and broaden their knowledge and understanding of the subject.

Our Scientists

Knowledge: Specialist vocabulary and concepts are taught and developed.

Skills: Scientific enquiry skills are embedded in each topic the children study and these topics are revisited and developed throughout their time at school.

Experiences: Key concepts are reinforced through hands-on activities, so that pupils learn to use a variety of approaches to answer relevant scientific questions. Where possible, visitors, workshops and trips help engage and build upon work in the classroom.

Celebrations

To engage our school community, we share and celebrate Ardleigh Green Infants learning experiences on our Twitter Feed and Class Dojo.

Curriculum Planning

Careful curriculum planning ensures that our pupils build on existing knowledge and skills over the course of their Ardleigh Green learning journey. This leads to better understanding, knowledge retention and engagement.
